Bayelsa lawmaker pays for 79 indigent youths’ NECO, JAMB forms

SUCCOUR came the way of 79
indigent youths in Yenagoa, constituency II, as
the lawmaker representing the area in Bayelsa
State House of Assembly, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-
Obiyai, weekend, presented them with free
NECO registration and JAMB forms.
Speaking at a brief ceremony held at Okolobiri
in Yenagoa Local Government Area of the
state, Mrs. Koku-Obiyai, said that the gesture
was driven by her desire to invest in youth
empowerment and education in line with her
electioneering promises to the people of her
constituency.
Describing education as the best legacy to
give the younger generation, she said that the
beneficiaries were selected from eight
secondary schools and youths in the area
preparing for UTME.

She said playing a role in the educational
development of the youths would help direct
their energies to useful ventures.
“I know because of the financial situation, we
really need to help with our position and I have
decided to package this programme to assist
the youths actualise their educational pursuit,”
she said.
Urging the beneficiaries to take their studies
seriously, Mrs. Koku-Obiyai, a former
chairperson of the state chapter of Nigeria
Labour Congress, NLC, said “My advice is that
you (beneficiaries) should take advantage of
this opportunity and become good citizens of
our state and the country.”
Earlier, the immediate past Special Adviser to
the Bayelsa Governor on Culture and
Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Banton Akpuruku,
who chaired ceremony commended Mrs. Koku-
Obiyai for the initiative.
