Air Peace grounds two planes after collision

Air Peace airline, yesterday, grounded two of
its planes after they collided when one of them
was being towed at the ramp of the General
Aviation Terminal, GAT, of Murtala Muhammed
Airport, Lagos to position for departure.

One of the planes, a B737 aircraft with
registration mark 5N-BQR wings brushed the
wings of another stationary plane with
registration mark 5N-BQP on the ramp. There
were no passengers on the two aircraft
involved in the incident
This incident is coming barely 48 hours after
Aero Contractors Lagos bound flight with 53
passengers on aboard developed fault mid-air.
Air Peace said as a precautionary measure,
the two aircraft have been taken out for
proper checking and servicing. And the two
planes flight schedules for the day have been
rescheduled and will be absolved by other
planes in the fleet
Reacting to the incident, Mr Christian Iwara,
Corporate Communication, Air Peace, said: “
We confirm that at about 6.15am today, the
winglet of our B737 aircraft with registration
mark 5N-BQR, which was being towed within
the very limited space at the ramp of the
Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to
position for departure, had a partial contact
with the stabiliser of another of our B737
aircraft with registration mark 5N-BQP.”
“Although the points of contact of the two
aircraft were only slightly impacted, we took
the cautious decision to declare them
unserviceable to enable proper investigation of
the incident, checks and repair by our
Engineering and Maintenance Department in
line with our high safety standards.
“There were no passengers on the planes
involved in the incident.”
We have also revised our flight schedule to
cater to our esteemed guests on the 14
sectors the two aircraft were scheduled to
service today.
“At the moment, everything is working
according to plan and our engineers have
already begun repair of the aircraft.”
Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, has begun
investigation into the incident which is the
standard aviation practice.
